Sculptures and Statues

Sculpture is one of the oldest forms of art known to man, using multiple materials and techniques: Low relief or bas-relief, mid-relief, high relief, Casting, molding, etc.

Description: Three-dimensional forms, carved and formed from multiple materials, such as
statues of gods and human representations, which may be in the form of a whole body or a bust.
Statues of animals. May also include statues and sculptures made by shaping or casting, usually
from ceramics or metals such as bronze, or from organic materials such as ivory.

Statues are placed on stands and bases on which they rest, and they may also have a flat, smooth stand that forms a single block with the statue. Often the bases of large statues have commemorative inscriptions and are executed separately on the statue. Smaller statues and sculptures rest on a pedestal or smooth surface.

The statues can be found whole or in parts.

Material: stone (limestone or marble), ceramic, minerals, ivory.

Ornaments: May bear traces of paint.
