Securing Cultural Property Project Note (DPLB CVPC).

Seizure of stolen cultural property or discovery of  illicit excavations procedures:

1-  In case of cultural goods seizure (coins, archaeological objects, ethnographic and works of art), the services of Security and National Gendarmerie are called to approach the Culture and Arts Directorates to ask for an expert opinion. 

2- The Culture and Arts Directorates of the Wilayas approach the Ministry of Culture and Arts services to request the assignment of an expert.

3- Once the seized objects are identified as cultural goods by the experts, the Ministry of Culture and Arts validates the identification by the experts and transmits it to the services of Security and National Gendarmerie that it is indeed bout cultural goods, as defined by the Law 04/98, relating to the protection of the Algerian National Heritage.

4- The directors of Culture and the Arts are now responsible for following the relevant judicial process. 

5- Once the procedure is over and after the judge’s verdict, the Ministry’s representative will take charge of recovering the seized objects and will deposit them in a Museum institution.
